Wild yeast, open wooden fermenters, minimal racking and filtration ... I like the way Yarraloch goes about making its wines. The packaging is good too. For an unproven label I don't always enjoy the pricing but the wines are interesting.
Excellent flavour and impact for a 12.5 percent alcohol wine. Lemons, slate, dried herbs and even a touch of nectarine. It's textural and punchy but perhaps a little blunt, its beautifully slatey finish at minor odds with the overall roundness of flavour. It will be interesting to see this wine in nine or so months time - there are subtle, briney, spicy elements around the edges, and if they become more prominent, then we will really have a wine on our hands.
